Welcome, everyone, to our website!

Marriage is in many ways a simplification of life, and it naturally combines the strengths and wills of two young people so that, together, they seem to reach farther into the future than they did before. Above all, marriage is a new task and a new seriousness, a new demand on the strength and generosity of each partner, and a great new danger for both. Life is self-transformation, and human relationships, which are an extract of life, are the most changeable of all, they rise and fall from minute to minute.

There are such connections, in which there must be a very great, an almost unbearable happiness, but they can occur only between very rich beings, between those who have become, each for his own sake, rich, calm, and concentrated; only if two worlds are wide and deep and individual can they be combined....

For the more we are, the richer everything we experience is. And those who want to have a deep love in their lives must collect and save for it, and gather honey.

From Letters, Rainer Maria Rilke

the wedding

We hope you can join us on October 16th to celebrate our wedding day.

The ceremony will take place at 4 pm at Inks Lake State Park in Texas.

Starting around 2pm on Saturday at the Lake, people will start arriving to help with preparing the space, and it gives you a little time to get to know each other. The ceremony will start at 4pm. The party/reception will go on into the night, though the noise level needs to be down at 10pm.

Sunday morning at 9am, we invite you all to share in a potluck breakfast, very informal, bring something to eat and/or share. We will be eating, cleaning up, and saying goodbyes.

what to wear

Casual dress. Definitely wear some comfortable shoes, since the wedding ceremony and reception are outdoors, and the ground is not always even (we don't want any broken ankles with all the dancing!). Be prepared for rain, just in case.

directions

Inks Lake State Park, site of the wedding

Directions from Austin to Inks Lake:
Start by going North on Highway 183. From the Austin airport, you can reach 183 by taking a left out of the airport, quickly merging onto 71 West, then exiting very soon onto Hwy 183 North. If you are coming from elsewhere in Austin, note that two of the main highways, I-35 and Loop 1 both have exits for Highway 183.

So traveling on 183N, go through all of Austin, past Cedar Park, through some country-land, then, when you enter Liberty Hill (about 35 minutes from central Austin), take a left onto State Highway 29 at the stoplight. Keep driving on 29 (you are heading West), through Bertram and then through Burnet. About 9 miles past Burnet, take a left onto Park Road 4 (there is a sign for Inks Lake and also a large sign for Longhorn Cavern where this road is). Go south 3 miles to the park headquarters (entrance is to your right).

When you arrive at the park, there may be a small entrance fee (more detail on this to come). If you arrive early for preparations before the wedding, find us in the field between cabins 19-22. This is where all the pre and post ceremony gatherings will take place. The ceremony itself will take place in the amphitheater. If it rains, there will be a large tent in the field between the cabins, and in that case, the ceremony will be under the tent.

Just FYI, there is a large grocery store called HEB on your left as you drive on Hwy 29 in Burnet. You will also pass an intersection with 281, which is where you turn left if you need to get to the Holiday Inn Express.

There are alternate routes, see mapquest.com for more ideas.

Expect travel time to be about 1.5 hours, if there is no traffic.

lodging

Most people will want to arrive Friday, spend the night in Austin, then spend
Saturday night at Inks Lake or in a nearby hotel in Burnet, since the park is
1 to 1.5 hours outside of Austin.
Note that drive time between the state park and the Austin airport may take closer to 2 hours.

gifts / registry

Bridal Registry at Sears.com

If you would prefer to give us the gift of travel in lieu of a household item, we would love to receive any contributions to our honeymoon fund. Our hope is to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain (a popular pilgrimage and UN World Heritage site) for a couple weeks in June, then relax at the beach or countryside there, speaking Spanish and enjoying paella.
